Quick start: movement and targeting
Riftbound: Dawnfall is a real-time isometric action RPG built around positioning, short skill cooldowns, equipment upgrades, and a seven-act journey through the frozen city of Veyra. This guide explains the controls, skill roles, gear system, boss rhythm, and safest way to use checkpoints and save slots without revealing the major story twists.
On mobile, move with the virtual joystick or tap a safe point on the ground. Tap an enemy or press Attack to target it. On desktop, use WASD or the Arrow keys, click the ground to reposition, and click an enemy or press Space to attack. Circle a group, let melee enemies follow, then counter after ranged projectiles pass.
The quest tracker shows your current objective, while the minimap helps locate enemies, anchors, interactable objects, and the Rift Gate. If an interaction prompt appears, approach it and tap the prompt; desktop players can press E. Open Inventory with the bag icon or I, and pause with the menu button or Escape.
How every combat skill should be used
Arc Strike
Arc Strike is your reliable primary attack and has no mana cost. Use it against isolated targets so that mana remains available for larger groups.
Rift Dash
Rift Dash can reposition the hero, escape pressure, or cross a dangerous attack. Do not spend it automatically when a fight begins. Keeping it ready makes boss waves and crowded corners much safer.
Rift Wave
Rift Wave unlocks at level 2 and is strongest against enemies standing in a line. Step sideways until several enemies follow the same path, then release the wave through the group. Using it against one weak enemy usually wastes mana and a useful cooldown.
Dawn Nova
Dawn Nova unlocks at level 3 and covers the area around the hero. Save it for enemies that surround you instead of using it on one distant target. A simple sequence is to gather enemies while moving, align them for Rift Wave, finish a survivor with Arc Strike, and use Dawn Nova only if the group closes in.
Memory Tonic
Memory Tonic restores health but has a cooldown and limited stock. Use it before health becomes critically low, especially when a guardian is preparing another radial attack. Rift Anchors restore resources and provide checkpoints, so avoid consuming several tonics when an unused anchor is nearby.
Gear, rarity, and inventory strategy
Enemies and chests can drop weapons, armor, helmets, and rings in Common, Rare, Epic, or Legendary rarity. Rarity is a useful signal, but the best item is the one that improves the statistics your current build needs. Compare the item details and total gear score before equipping it. A lower-rarity weapon can remain valuable when its damage increase is larger.
The inventory holds 24 items, so inspect drops regularly. Equip clear upgrades and salvage unwanted pieces. Bosses are strong sources of progress, but ordinary enemies and hidden chests can provide the improvement that makes the next guardian manageable.
Seven acts and their objectives
The journey begins in Bellfall Outskirts, where the first siege teaches targeting and recovery. Gloamwood adds ranged pressure while you recover Dawn Shards. The Rain Archive asks you to break memory seals, and The Drowned Reservoir increases the number of enemies in each encounter. Garden of Sleeping Suns combines combat with spirit interactions. Palace at 5:59 challenges you with the Bellguard line before The Dawn Engine ends the journey with Regent Ilyon.
Read the objective before clearing the entire map. Some acts require interaction or collection instead of only defeating enemies. When the objective is complete and the guardian falls, finish any nearby exploration before entering the active Rift Gate. Passing through the gate advances the story and autosaves the next act.
Boss tactics that work in every act
Guardians have larger health pools and can release radial projectiles. Fight at a distance where the full pattern is visible. When a wave begins, move through the widest gap or use Rift Dash to cross danger quickly. Attack during the recovery period instead of forcing one extra strike while a pattern is forming. If smaller enemies are present, remove them first so the arena stays readable.
Monitor your mana, potion count, and Dash cooldown. A patient fight with an escape skill ready is safer than an opening that leaves every ability unavailable. Surviving the next pattern is more important than landing one additional attack.
Anchors, autosave, and manual save slots
Rift Anchors recover health and mana, replenish a minimum potion supply, establish a checkpoint, and trigger autosave. The game also autosaves during major progress events and approximately every 30 seconds. For additional control, open Pause, choose Save Game, and use one of three manual slots. The Load Game screen identifies the hero, act, location, playtime, gear score, and completion percentage.
Browser saves use localStorage. Continue playing in the same browser and site origin, avoid Incognito mode, and do not clear site data if the journey must be preserved. A manual save before closing the tab is still a good habit, even when the autosave notification has recently appeared.
Best settings for mobile play
Choose Low quality on older phones to reduce pixel density, shadows, decorative objects, and particles. Medium is the balanced default, while High suits newer devices. Portrait mode is fully supported, but landscape provides a wider view of enemies and boss projectiles. Music and SFX volumes can be adjusted separately without muting useful combat feedback.
Final advice
The most important lesson in Riftbound: Dawnfall is that movement creates damage opportunities. Group enemies, spend mana when it hits several targets, treat Dash as protection, and activate every anchor. With disciplined saves and regular equipment checks, all seven acts can be completed without rushing or repeatedly consuming tonics.
